Apart from transferring a vehicle’s title or registering an imported car, motorcycle or ATV in Costa Rica’s National Registry, a public notary is required for many transactions, amongst them:

• Power of Attorney to sell a vehicle
• Vehicle’s change of characteristics such as its engine or color
• Changing the details of the owner of the vehicle
• Vehicle’s lien filing or release
• Make a car or motorcycle a business asset
